'Simple!' - Arsenal fans divided over Mikel Arteta's captain decision for West Ham United clash

Some Arsenal supporters are divided on Mikel Arteta's decision to name Alexandre Lacazette as captain for this evening's meeting with West Ham United.

The Gunners will be desperate to make it back-to-back victories in the Premier League tonight as they take on a Hammers side who have similar ambitions in landing a European spot this season.

We brought you the news yesterday that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not be in the squad for tonight's game after a discipline issue saw the Arsenal striker stripped of his captaincy at the north London club.

So, without Aubameyang to choose from, this is the confirmed line-up from Arteta for the showdown at the Emirates Stadium: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Partey, Xhaka, Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard, Lacazette.

Arsenal supporters have been reacting to the unchanged line-up, with Lacazette being the captain the major talking point.

Lacazatte is in contention to be named the permanent captain, football.london understands, with Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Kieran Tierney also in the run-in.

Most of Arteta's pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon was dominated by the Aubameyang news, and the Arsenal boss is sure that the rest of his squad will be 100% committed to the task at hand.

When asked if the Aubameyang news could be a fresh start for the team and supporters, Arteta said: "Well, we have to deal with the situation right now, we have to make the most out of it and the thing is that tomorrow we have a game.

"We have to show how much we care about that game tomorrow, and I am sure that every player that steps out onto that pitch is going to be 100 per cent committed."

Arteta also thinks that tonight's crowd at the Emirates Stadium could play a big factor in the end result.

He said: "You can see when the crowd gets behind the team, the moments that (the team) are creating. A really good example was against Southampton again, and that is what the players are talking about right now.

"They know tomorrow night under the lights, they will be right behind the team and they want to please them."
