Simple 1p challenge will save you more than £650 for next Christmas

A simple 1p challenge will save you more than £650 by next Christmas - and here's how.

It works by saving 1p on January 1, 2p on January 2 and then increasing every day until you get to £3.65 on the last day of the year.

To have the full amount of £671.61 ahead of Christmas 2022 you might need to double up your pennies here and there - or you could save it all for a big New Year celebration or holiday.

You could save £671.61 over a year - or £650 by Christmas.

This is guaranteed to help for the festive period next year - when hopefully there will be a return to parties and your social calendar will be packed.

To do the challenge you can print out a good old-fashioned template on paper to track your progress or even use banks like Monzo to start a savings pot on your phone.

Its mobile banking app will move the money into your pot for you, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting to save every single day.

Even many high street banks' apps let you do this now too.

Some savers like to switch things round by getting the bigger amounts out of the way as soon as possible, starting with £3.65 and working back to 1p.

For a more challenging option, you can switch the pennies for pounds, and save a total of £1,378 by the end of the year.

Rather than every day, savers could also put £1 in their pot the first week, £2 in the second week and so on until reaching £52 on the final week.

It’s an ambitious but achievable way to slowly save a chunk of money by the end of the year.

However you do it, it's sure to take the stress out of paying for next Christmas.

A similar trick can help you save up all year to pay for Christmas food bills - if you shop at Tesco.

A mum has shared how shoppers can save up points to help with Christmas 2022.

Super saver Sophie Hyden opened up about her approach on Facebook on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group.

She said the first step is to sign up for the Tesco clubcard.

Then you must sign into your Tesco account on your browser, not the Tesco app.

From there, click on the section of the website about the Tesco voucher scheme.

On that part of the website you can change the event you save for to 'Christmas saver'.

This means any vouchers you collect are uploaded to the Tesco app next November, in time for the costly Christmas period.
