Simone Biles to compete at sixth World Championships following stellar qualifying performance

NEW DELHI: Simone Biles, the remarkable four-time Olympic champion and holder of 19 world gold medals, is poised to participate in her sixth world championships later this month. USA Gymnastics confirmed this development after Biles secured the top all-around score during a U.S. qualifying competition.

The reigning gymnastics sensation will lead the five-woman team bound for Antwerp, Belgium, a city with special significance for Biles, as it was there in 2013 that she clinched her first world all-around title at the tender age of 16.

Taking to Instagram to express her anticipation, the 26-year-old athlete posted, "Back to where it all started, see you soon Belgium."

This remarkable achievement will see Biles become the first woman to represent the United States at six artistic world championships, as confirmed by USA Gymnastics. She earned automatic qualification for the upcoming event by dominating the all-around standings during this week's two-day selection camp held in Katy, Texas.

Joining Biles in this prestigious journey are Shilese Jones, Leanne Wong, and Skye Blakely, all of whom were part of the victorious team at last year's world championships. Additionally, 17-year-old Joscelyn Roberson will complete the formidable lineup.

The championships are set to unfold from September 30 to October 8.

Biles made a triumphant return to competitive gymnastics in August, following a two-year hiatus from the sport.

Her absence was primarily attributed to her withdrawal from multiple events at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 due to the challenging condition known as the 'twisties,' which led to a loss of spatial awareness while mid-air.

In a display of her unparalleled talent and resilience, Biles secured an unprecedented eighth all-around title at the national championships. She has also voiced her ambition to compete in the upcoming Paris Games scheduled for next year.
