Hong Kong actor Simon Yam is “stable” after undergoing surgery for a stab wound he suffered while speaking at an event in Zhongshan, China.

The star, who has appeared in a number of Hollywood films including 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, was stabbed in the stomach and slashed on the hand by a man who rushed the stage.

Video footage stared on Weibo, China’s equivalent to Twitter, showed a man lunging at the actor before a violent scuffle breaks out.

Security guards rushed to intervene and the man was detained at the scene, according to police.

Yam’s manager said his injuries were not life-threatening. He has since returned to Hong Kong after surgery in a Zhongshan hospital, according to his management company.

“The knife wound to his abdominal area caused minor damage to his internal organs which has been repaired,” a spokesperson for Emperor Entertainment Group said, via AsiaOne.

“The injuries to his right hand have also been treated. He is resting and in a stable condition.”
