It has been nearly 10 years since I’ve seen my beloved crew of the Enterprise. I am, of course, referring to the Kelvin Verse movies. Led by Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk, those are my favorite films in the entire Star Trek franchise but I thought they were dead.
Star Trek 4 was supposed to happen eons ago but with ever changing directors, stars fighting for better wages, and more, the film has been dead in the water for quite a while. Now, Simon Pegg, who co-wrote Star Trek Beyond and starred as Scotty in the series, is giving me hope that I can see my favorite bridge once more. And to that I say: Don’t give me hope, Simon.
Pegg was at the STLV: Trek to Vegas panel when he addressed the future of the Kelvin Verse and pointed out that Paramount CEO is a big fan of the franchise and that he is someone who wants to see the series grow. For me, that’s all I need to be absolutely insufferable about the potential of seeing a fourth Star Trek movie with Pine, Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, John Chu, Karl Urban, and more.
“Well, I know David Ellison is a big Star Trek fan. I know he cares about the series. So I would love it. I would be delighted if we could make another film,” Pegg said on the panel. “I love those guys. And despite how we had a tragedy in our group [the death of Anton Yelchin in 2016], which was extremely painful. It would be wonderful to come together again. J.J. [Abrams] has always said that there are scripts being developed and this and that. I think it’s about time. It would be great to see us 10 years after the five year mission, where we are.”
This is, frankly, all I wanted. If I could write it for free, I would! Just give me more of my Kelvin Verse team please!
