Simon Mignolet provides perfect summary of Liverpool's season as potential transfer looms for goalkeeper

Simon Mignolet provided the perfect summary of Liverpool's season after the Reds finished as Premier League runners-up.

A 2-0 win at home to Wolves on Sunday wasn't enough to win a first title in 29 years as Pep Guardiola reserves special message for Liverpool after thrilling Premier League title race at the AMEX.

Liverpool briefly threatened to pull off an incredible last-day triumph after Glenn Murray scored for Brighton, but the Reds were forced to settle for second place after a superlative season that saw them beaten just once.

Mignolet, who only made two appearances all season in cup defeats to Chelsea and Wolves, could now leave Anfield this summer after falling down the pecking order behind Alisson Becker, who joined last summer from Roma and made his 50th appearance on Sunday.

However, the uber-professional Belgian was quick to offer his analysis on what was a superb campaign for Liverpool.

He tweeted: "97 points. Lost just one match. Unbeaten at home. Golden Glove winner. Joint Golden Boot winners. PFA Player of the Year. Best fans in the country #YNWA".

If it was to be Mignolet's final tweet as a Liverpool player, it was the ideal way to encapsulate what has been an extraordinary nine months for Klopp's Reds.

The former Sunderland shot-stopper faces an uncertain future ahead of the transfer window re-opening next week and Liverpool are likely to listen to offers for the 31-year-old.

Speaking back in March, Mignolet admitted he might be seeking regular football elsewhere in the close season.

Vincent Kompany sends classy Liverpool message after Premier League title admission

"This season, it was something quite easy to accept, but, obviously, I’d like to play," he said.

"That’s why I keep working every day and try to keep on going on this path. I don’t know if an exit is possible this summer, I still have two years left on my contract.

"For now, I’m focused on Liverpool and Belgium games. We’ll see later."

Attention now turns to the Reds' Champions League final with Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.
