Simon McCoy signs off GB News after taking swipe at Eamonn Holmes replacement

Simon McCoy has signed off for the final time on GB News.

It was announced earlier this month that the presenter - who had previously worked for the BBC for nearly two decades - was leaving the GB News breakfast show for "personal reasons".

The channel also confirmed Eamonn Holmes would be replacing Simon, which came as a great shock to the broadcaster. On finding out the news online, Simon simply tweeted: "That's nice," appearing to suggest he had no idea it was the case.

In a tweet to mark the end of his time on the programme, Simon thanked his viewers for their support as he bid farewell to the show.

"To all of you who have watched me on #GBNews … thank you. YOU are what this job is all about. Until we meet again… #aurevoir," he wrote on Twitter after signing off for a final time.

When one Twitter user claims he wasn't happy at GB News, the BBC or Sky News as he had switched between them, the broadcaster hit back and penned: "16 years at Sky. 18 years at the BBC. Define ‘happy’!"

At the time his exit was announced, GB News' CEO Angelos Frangopoulos paid tribute to Simon in a statement, which read: "Simon is an outstanding broadcaster and we’re sorry to see him go. We remain open to ways we can work with him in future."

Simon was less than impressed when it was announced Eammon Holmes would be replacing him on the programme.

He shared a post on social media, which read: "A spokesman for GB News told Express.co.uk: '[Simon] is being replaced by Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster and we’re thrilled about this,'" before adding: "That's nice."

Eamonn - who had hosted ITV's This Morning for several years - was announced as Simon's replacement on December 10.

"I've spent my career on broadcasting firsts and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting yet. It's just the kind of shake-up the industry needs," he said in a statement.

"I've admired GB News from the beginning for its clever mix of punchy debate but delivered with warmth and even some fun. To me the greatest honour in journalism is to give a voice and respect to the unheard, and that's exactly what GB News is all about."
