Simon McCoy's sarcastic response as GB News say Eamonn Holmes is replacing him

Simon McCoy has responded to the announcement that he has been replaced by Eamonn Holmes on GB News.

Last week it was revealed that Simon, 60, had quit the network, after leaving the BBC to join the channel.

The news of his departure came shortly after it was confirmed that Eamonn, 62, was signing up to host his own show on GB News.

CEO Angelos Frangopoulos released a statement saying: "Simon is an outstanding broadcaster and we’re sorry to see him go.

"We remain open to ways we can work with him in future."

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday evening, Simon tweeted: "A spokesman for GB News told Express.co.uk: '[Simon] is being replaced by Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster and we’re thrilled about this'.

He then added at the end of the tweet: "That’s nice."

Simon's fans were quick to respond to the post, with one person writing: "To repeat myself; Eamonn Holmes is okay but he’s no Simon McCoy."

Another person replied: "I hope your not leaving because of Eamonn. You will be missed (sic)."

The Mirror understands Eamonn has been in touch with Simon personally since his new role was announced.

Eamonn will host a new programme in the New Year and is said to be 'excited' about his new role and being able to 'give a voice to the unheard'.

Eamonn - who has appeared on This Morning for 15-years - said: "I've spent my career on broadcasting firsts and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting yet.

"It's just the kind of shake-up the industry needs."

He added: "I've admired GB News from the beginning for its clever mix of punchy debate but delivered with warmth and even some fun.

"To me the greatest honour in journalism is to give a voice and respect to the unheard, and that's exactly what GB News is all about."

Following the news breaking, an ITV spokesperson told the Mirror: "We would like to wish Eamonn all of the very best in his new role.

Eamonn will no longer be hosting This Morning alongside his wife Ruth Langsford (ITV)

"As a duo, Eamonn & Ruth have been part of the This Morning presenting team for the last 15 years and we thank Eamonn for all of his hard work and contribution to the show.

"Ruth remains an important part of ITV Daytime both as a continuing member of the This Morning family and as an anchor presenter on Loose Women," they added.
