Simon Jordan uses 'c***' Rangers game to highlight why Sky swerved Scottish Premiership blockbuster

Outspoken Simon Jordan has branded the quality of Scottish football "dreadful" and reckons SPFL chiefs can have no complaints after Sky gave our game a swerve.

Punters were up in arms that none of the six games last Wednesday were selected for live coverage - with Liverpool's Carabao Cup tussle with Preston given the marquee treatment by the broadcaster.

Sky have an option to show 48 games a season under their £150m five-year deal, but only broadcast 41 during the pandemic hit 2020/21 campaign.

And unimpressed Jordan reckons Scottish football isn't helped by games like Rangers' 2-1 win away to St Mirren - a contest the former Crystal Palace owner claims "puts his feet to sleep".

And the opinionated broadcaster has now set a challenge to Neil Doncaster to get Sky to make adjustments to their schedule in a bid to showcase Scottish football.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "Having watched St Mirren vs Rangers the other week, which is 90 minutes of my life that I will never get back, I can understand why there isn't a clamour to broadcast some of these games.

"Look, you've got to work out the obligation, broadcasters would have given their schedule at the beginning of the season, so it's on Scottish football at the beginning of this season to say 'hang on, where are we in the greater scheme of things'.

"In the greater scheme of things, a game, which historically would have had much resonance, because Aberdeen were once upon a time a great club with great players like Alex McLeish and Gordon Strachan, winning European honours, but that was a long time ago, that's back in the land that time forgot.

"I don't like to jump on this bandwagon that it's a pub league, because I don't think it is, but from a broadcasting (point of view) some of the quality is really poor.

"I watched it with real interest, because I am a convert now, but some of the quality is dreadful, it was a cure for insomnia and the quality isn't good enough.

"So the broadcasters have to look at and say 'ok, we gave Scottish football a schedule of games at the start of the season, why are you bringing this up as a case to be heard now? That case should have been heard when the fixture list came out saying 'who wants to watch Scottish football? And our survey says no'.

"I would say they can't argue this, I would like to see better commercial deals done, I'd like to see Neil Doncaster and his little gang getting together and doing better broadcasting deals than the one that is there.

"The facts are of the matter, I can find no other way to describe it, if you are going to put games of football on that lack the quality, lack the engagement and the viewing figures that must have come out that St Mirren vs Rangers game, which put my feet to sleep.

"I need to make the point, I have to spell it out, it was c***, and I didn't want to watch it."
