Simon Jordan ridicules Celtic over wait to appoint Eddie Howe as new boss

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has criticised and ridiculed the Celtic board over the extended time taken to appoint the club's new manager.

The Hoops have reportedly been talks with ex-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe for several weeks now, with the Englishman's backroom coaching team thought to be a sticking point in negotiations.

Neil Lennon resigned as Celtic 's manager on February 24, more than three months ago now, with John Kennedy taking the reins as interim boss for the final 12 weeks of the season.

Possessing experience of negotiating with and appointing managers in the recent past, Jordan is far from impressed with how the Parkhead hierarchy have handled the situation.

Speaking via talkSPORT, he said: "I still can't work out what's the issue with Eddie Howe.

"I mean it has been taking a long time, we're not getting somebody of the highest calibre, are we?

"We're not trying to get Zidane to come and join Celtic with the greatest respect. We are trying to get Eddie Howe, we're hearing all kinds of manner of things.

"Celtic fans will have a view because, ultimately, if they had won the league this year and fired Neil Lennon and still hadn't got a manager they wouldn't be saying 'we're not going to renew our season tickets' because we haven't got a manager we would be say 'we're excited to see what you're going to be doing'."

Celtic have continued their pre-season plans without a head coach, with friendlies against West Ham, Preston and Sheffield Wednesday all announced earlier this week.
