Simon Jordan issues scathing attack on Ravel Morrison amid Derby County trial

Simon Jordan says the "penny will never drop" with Ravel Morrison and hints the former Manchester United starlet will ultimately fail at Derby County.

Having been released by Dutch side ADO Den Haag in January, the 28-year-old has teamed up with Wayne Rooney in this latest bid to reignite his professional career.

Morrison progressed through the club's famed academy alongside Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, and was regarded as a superstar in the making.

However, he departed for West Ham in 2012 having failed to make a single Premier League appearance for the club.

Following spells at a list of clubs, including QPR, Lazio and Sheffield United, Morrison has now been handed his latest lifeline by Rooney - the former United captain and club record goalscorer - ahead of the 2021/2022 season.

But according to talkSPORT host and former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan, the move is destined to fail.

"Ravel Morrison is 28. He's had 12 clubs over 11 years and played 98 games. I imagine the 13th club is going to be the making of him," he sarcastically told the radio station.

"The clue is in the statistics. If you've played 98 games for 12 clubs over 11 years, scored 15 goals and had people talk about you in the most glowing terms like Rooney - I think Sam Allardyce has also spoken about him in ability terms, but also talked about his lack of professionalism.

"I don't think the penny has dropped. If it hasn't dropped at 28, or 26, it's never going to drop."

Jordan added: "He doesn't stay anywhere and, the reason why he doesn't stay anywhere, is because nobody wants him to stay there. So why is this going to be any different?

"I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the world is full of incredibly talented footballers that can only leave it on the training ground.

"And this wonderful story of how many times he nut-megged Nemanja Vidic is irrelevant. That's the training ground. Do it on a big stage.

"Clearly, you can't. That's why you've played for 12 clubs and played 98 games in 11 years. That's less than nine games a season. He scores less than one goal a year."
