Simon Jordan hopes Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon 'gets what he deserves'

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has blasted Anthony Gordon for how he conducted himself in leaving Everton to join Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old was unveiled as a Newcastle player last weekend in a move that cost the Magpies a whopping £45m.

But prior to joining Newcastle, Gordon opted not to turn up for training with his boyhood club Everton, in an effort to try and force through a move to Tyneside.

Following the sacking of Frank Lampard, the winger missed three days of training with Everton in disarray. The Toffees have endured a nightmare campaign so far this season and currently sit 19th in the Premier League.

While one of those days was a planned absence, the lack of attendance to training on Wednesday and Thursday last week was conducted in an effort to force his way out of the club. Ultimately in the end, Gordon got his wish, with the England U21 winger signing a long-term deal with the Magpies.

However, Gordon's conduct, namely his decision to not turn up for training has been branded by some pundits as disrespectful.

And taking to the airwaves, talkSPORT pundit Jordan likened the new Newcastle winger to a rat deserting a sinking ship, going further to state he hopes Gordon "gets what he deserves."

"I don't like the way he's behaved towards Everton Football Club," said Jordan. "I can understand that everybody like rats wants to desert a sinking ship but you're supposed to be able to help that football club, not disadvantage it by your behaviour and I hope he gets what he deserves. Reaps what he sows.

"Everton have given him an opportunity. I mean Danny Murphy, and I have to listen to the players who know far more about the ability of players than I do, he thinks he's a top top player and he thinks he's going to be a top top player. But I think he still has a lot to prove and ultimately Everton deserved to be handled a little bit better by the player, and with a little bit more respect."
