Simon Jordan believes Leeds United's 'lucky dip' approach to Javi Gracia could work

TalkSPORT host Simon Jordan has claimed that Leeds United's hiring of new head coach Javi Gracia is 'a bit of a lucky dip' after their long hunt to find a replacement for Jesse Marsch.

The American was shown the door two weeks ago but the Whites have struggled to bring in a new name to lead the charge to stay in the Premier League.

Interim boss Michael Skubala was initially believed to be taking over for just one of the two clashes against Manchester United earlier this month but has been in the dugout three times while the board finds a permanent face for the club.

But now Gracia is the man they want to oversee the relegation battle after last weekend's 1-0 loss to Everton saw them slip into the bottom three for the first time this season.

With a vital clash against bottom-of-the-league Southampton coming up, a defeat there would see Leeds drop to 20th and potentially up to five points away from safety.

Gracia's experience in keeping teams up in England's top flight is something that Jordan believes would be helpful for Leeds during this tough period after the 52-year-old's time as manager at Watford a few years ago.

"He was unlucky to lose his job at Watford," Jordan said on talkSPORT earlier this morning. "Obviously they got smashed to pieces in the FA Cup final, we all know that, but that can happen with Manchester City.

"I remember watching his Malaga team years ago, when I was living in Marbella, between 2014-17 and they were not a bad side.

"I actually think, given the circumstances they find themselves in, which is a lucky dip right now, they don’t know where they’re going. But this is not an insensible sort of outlook in terms of a short-term fix.

"Get the players focused in the right way, someone who is quite sensible in his management, and you might just be able to get a tune out of this Leeds players for the last 15 games of the season or whatever they’ve got left."
