Simon Harris slams 'sickening and repulsive' behaviour outside the home of Leo Varadkar and his partner

Simon Harris has slammed the people who made homophobic remarks while protesting outside the home of Leo Varadkar as 'sickening and repulsive.'

In a video that was circulated online, protestors gathered outside the home of the Tànaiste and proceeded to make unfounded allegations about his sexual orientation.

Later on in the video, a man can be heard saying: "It's Leo Varadkar's house, the treasonous snake. I don't think his girlfriend is going to be too happy, oh wait, he's the girlfriend. Sorry, I don't think his boyfriend is going to be too happy."

In a post that was shared online, Minister Harris said: "Sickening, repulsive, disgusting behaviour outside the home of Leo Vardkar and Matt. It has no place in a democracy, must be condemned by all & called out for what it is. Efforts to dehumanise politicians contributes to this. Vile on so many levels."

Gardai were also alerted to this protest and attended the scene.

In a statement released to the Irish Mirror, the Gardai said: "Gardaí were alerted to a number of protestors outside a residence in Dublin 8 this afternoon Sunday 19th September at approximately 1p.m. Gardaí attended and the protest ended without incident."
