Simon Harris shows 'huge' progress Ireland has made in coronavirus battle with seven key numbers

Minister Simon Harris has said Ireland's seen a "huge improvement" in coronavirus figures in recent weeks.

The Health Minister shared the latest NPHET modelling which shows the major decline in Covid-19 broken into seven different metrics.

On April 16, Ireland was averaging 559 new coronavirus cases per day - fast forward to June 10 and that number is just 14.

These numbers were calculated by taking the average from the five days up to the date mentioned.

On April 16 19.8% of coronavirus tests were coming back as positive, on June 10 that figure is only 0.7%.

On that same day in April there were 865 people hospital compared to just 116 on Wednesday.

Back in mid-April there were an average of 54 hospital admissions per day with the virus, that's down to just three as of June 10.

There are 34 confirmed cases being treated in ICU as of Wednesday, back on April 16 there were 144.

ICU admissions per day stood at 8 on the date in April and are averaging zero currently.

While there were 55 deaths per day back on April 16 which has now fallen to an average of five per day.

The Health Minister said: "Latest modelling information on Covid-19 hows the huge progress we have made together in Ireland.

"All metrics show significant improvement. Complacency is now a threat though so let’s make sure we stick to the public health advice to build on the progress & avoid a second wave."
