Simon Gregson vows to carry on drinking despite past alcohol problems

Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson has vowed to carry on boozing despite his past problems with booze.

The actor, who’s played Steve McDonald for 30 years, previously opened up about his battles with the bottle during his early days on the Cobbles.

Simon, 45 has also revealed he has grappled with anxiety over the years.

But fans became concerned over the telly favourite yesterday when he took to Twitter to vow to carry on drinking.

Simon previously opened up about his battles with the bottle during his early days on the Cobbles (Eamonn and James Clarke)

Simon, who played Steve McDonald for 30 years, wrote: “I’ve now decided after years of drinking and making a fool of myself plus of course the health implications of such debauchery, I’m gonna carry on.”

The Corrie veteran’s worried fans replied to him in their drives, with one writing: “Be careful my wife was not a big drinker now she has liver cirrhosis and is on 20 tablets a day. We both gave up five years ago.”

In 2014, Simon revealed back how he struggled with his boozing in the 90s.

He admitted he was “drinking to forget” as depression took hold and he received a drink-drive ban in 2007.

He said at the time: “I didn’t like being famous. I didn’t like what came with it.”

The Corrie staple has since turned his life around and is married to Emma Gleave with three children.
