Simon Grayson picks out the most underrated member of Leeds United's squad

Simon Grayson has backed Patrick Bamford to continue his impressive start to the season.

The striker has netted in both of Leeds United's Premier League games so far this season and appears to have responded well to the competition new signing Rodrigo is providing.

Bamford has sometimes been a controversial figure among Whites fans due to his tendency to miss some chances, with Marcelo Bielsa's preference to the former Middlesbrough striker over Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah raising some eyebrows last season.

Yet former Leeds boss Grayson feels Bamford will only benefit from his start to the season after facing stick from fans in the past since his 2018 move to Elland Road.

Speaking to the Leeds United show, Grayson argued that Bamford's work rate has gone under the radar and, now he is adding goals to his game, his confidence will only improve.

"It’s been great for Patrick Bamford that he’s had a good start to the season," he said.

"Not everybody knows his work rate is there for the last couple of years, but ultimately he’s got goals hasn’t he first couple of games, so it’s great for his confidence.

"He’s been a little underrated, had a little bit of stick and I think Patrick would be the first to acknowledge that he’s missed a few chances over the last couple of years, but that’s what strikers do."

The Whites next face Sheffield United on Sunday in a Yorkshire derby.
