What is with the Sun and “Labour” MP Simon Danczuk? One minute the paper is quoting him approvingly because he criticised Jeremy Corbyn’s Cenotaph nod and the next it is deriding him as a “Labour big-mouth” for his own remembrance day faux pas.
The Sun’s attack on Danczuk centred on him having sent a tweet during the two-minute silence on Armistice Day. He was scorned on Twitter for having done so.
He had indulged in just the kind of behaviour - failing to pay proper respect to the fallen - that he accused Corbyn of having done.
But, as Tim Fenton pointed out on his Zelo Street blog, Danczuk failed to heed Denis Healey’s famous dictum: “When you are in a hole, don’t dig deeper.”
So he responded to his critics by saying that he had tweeted his message “well before the two-minute silence”, adding: “No idea why it was delayed.” Hmmm.
But there are lessons in this episode for both the Rochdale MP and the newspaper.
Does Danczuk not realise what a disloyal fool he is to act as a rent-a-quote for the anti-Labour Sun?
And does the Sun not realise that using “big-mouth” Danczuk to pursue its anti-Corbyn agenda lacks all credibility?
