Simon Cowell walking five miles a day months after breaking his back

Simon Cowell is hitting the road as he ramps up his recovery from a broken back.

The X Factor supremo needed six hours of emergency surgery when he fell off his electric bike over summer.

In an accident which could have left him paralysed, the music mogul missed snapping his spinal cord “by a centimetre”.

That means he wouldn't have walked again - and now he is getting his trainers on to get back to full health.

He undergoes the gruelling exercise regime as he enjoys a holiday with girlfriend Lauren Silverman, 43, and son Eric, 6, during his annual Christmas holiday to Barbados.

His close friend Sinitta says his recovery is going from strength to strength.

“He’s come back from a really scary position and is feeling blessed because the outcome could have been so different," she told The Sun.

“Simon has worked hard at his recovery and told me he’s walking 10,000 steps a day that’s around five miles – way more than he was before the accident.

"He’s got one of those watches that measures every step."

Simon hopes to return to film the new series of Britain's Got Talent in January.

Sinitta revealed back in September that Simon had quit his vegan diet and started eating protein to get his weight back up.

The former singer added: “He’s still having a lot of physiotherapy, seeing great doctors and doing non weight bearing pool work especially for spinal injuries,

“Simon has really looked after himself. Lauren and his team have taken great care of him and he’s being sensible.”

Simon is said to be considering legal action against the makers of the electric bike Swindon Powertrain.
