There is just wretched news for those of us who think Simon Cowell doesn't get nearly enough places as it is: he feels rejected by the Academy, having not been invited to the Oscars.
"They think I'm the Antichrist," he rants to the Mirror. "They don't like us TV folk to be part of it - it's ridiculous. It reeks of snobbery. I have nothing to do with the Oscars - nor do I want to."
Evidently, evidently. And yet, for all his relaxed understatement - he's sort of the Keegan to Oscar's Ferguson - doesn't it just seem so wrong to find Simon still running up against The System which has done so much to deny him recognition? How many rounds can one little battler go against The Man before he just gets tired of fightin'? If The Academy break his eminently fragile spirit, which of us will ever forgive them?
I guess that for now, the best thing we can do is pray that Simon stays strong, and remind him that the day WILL come when the Coen Brothers are just desperate to sneak into a Pop Idol recording and watch him drawl "APPALLING" at some misfit red state teen - at which point he'll be able to tell those Establishment johnnies they can prise a ticket from his cold dead hands.
