Simon Cowell has teased that there could be "one or two wild cards" returning for the Britain's Got Talent final on Sunday.
The music mogul, 58, made the comment towards the end of Wednesday's live semi-final after being left shocked that one of the acts failed to make it into the top three of the voting.
Singing teacher Tom Ball collected the most votes to secure his spot in Sunday's grand final following his stunning version of Rise Like A Phoenix - Austria's Eurovision-winning track sung by Conchita Wurst in 2014.
It was then down to the four judges to decide who they wanted to send through between magician Keiichi Iwasaki and teen comedian Eva Abley.
David Walliams chose to save Eva, as did former Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon - even though she tried her very best to send "both" acts through to the final.
Amanda Holden turned to give her vote and she didn't hesitate at all as she shouted out: "Eva!"
Hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly then asked head judge Simon who he would have chosen, and he admitted that he felt nine-year-old singer Immi Davis should have been in the running.
Simon said: "Well, you know what, this was really difficult because I also think Immi should be standing here right now as well.
"So I think we are going to have to bring one or two wild cards. I really mean it."
The schoolgirl from Welwyn Garden City wowed the judging panel with her incredible voice during her rendition of Bishop Briggs' 2018 hit River, so much so that Simon requested the youngster to sing the main chorus a capella.
And the live audience certainly made their feelings known by booing vehemently when it was revealed she was sent home.
The other acts who competed in the third semi-final of the week were Les Sancho, The Freaks, Dane Bates Collective and The Dots.
Ant and Dec asked a jubilant Eva how she felt after making Sunday's final, she said: "Amazing! Shocked! Amazing! I can't believe it. Thank you so, so much."
When asked how life has been at school since he first appeared on the talent show, Tom said: "My kids have been absolutely amazing, so supportive, lovely, I can't thank my school enough for just supporting me and everyone just at home supporting me."
Tom and Eva will join Maxwell Thorpe, Jamie Leahey, Ben Nickless and Golden Buzzer act Flintz and Taylor in the grand final on June 5.
