Simon Cowell's sister-in-law fear he's turning into 'groomzilla' in build up to wedding

Simon Cowell's sister-in-law has admitted he could be a "groomzilla" when he marries fiancée Lauren Silverman in London next month.

The media magnate, 62, and Silverman, 44, have been together since 2013 when news of their affair went public as it was confirmed Lauren was pregnant with their first child, son Eric.

She filed for divorce from businessman Andrew Silverman shortly afterwards, and Simon and Lauren have remained as a strong couple ever since.

Cowell eventually got on one knee while on a family holiday in Barbados over the Christmas period and he is not waiting around as he plans to marry the American socialite at a "lavish" ceremony in London in June.

It has been reported that Simon will take full control of the planning after the Britain's Got Talent judge admitted that the coronavirus pandemic brought the couple closer during lockdown.

And his sister-in-law Emma Cowell - married to his older half-brother Tony - revealed she is surprised that the day is happening at all and expected him to take charge of proceedings.

Emma told The Sun: "Will he be a groomzilla? It’s hard to say. Simon has very clear likes and dislikes.

"He is used to calling the shots on TV and behind the scenes so I’m sure he applies that to all areas of his life, including his wedding.

"But Lauren will have equally strong ideas as it’s her big day too. It’s also important for Eric and Simon’s stepson Adam.

"I’m sure he’s got lots of ideas, plans, and maybe a few surprises for Lauren, but I imagine it will be a low-key, really special day for them.

"None of us thought this day would come! Simon was a bachelor who never wanted to get married, engaged or be a dad, but look at him now."

June will be a busy month for the Cowell family as Emma's debut novel One Last Letter From Greece also comes out next month.

The 45-year-old recalled when she first got introduced to the X Factor creator 15 years ago and he did not dispel the tag of 'Mr Nasty', which he became synonymous during his time as a judge on the show and American Idol.

"When I first met him, I made brownies and he criticised them," Emma said.

"He suggested they needed buttercream - but they didn’t because that would make them a cake in my opinion. I’m not sure if anyone won that argument.

"Simon was wrongly seen as Mr Nasty or Mr Mean for a long time but he’s had a lot of things happen in his personal life and has always been honest and told the truth."

Emma believes the birth of Eric, 8, has given Simon a new lease of life. Eric is reportedly set to be front and centre for his parents' wedding, alongside Adam, 16, who Lauren had with her ex-husband.

"Since Eric was born his priorities have completely changed," the author added.

"It wasn’t something he ever expected or planned but it blew his world apart in the best way possible. While work is important to him, Eric and Lauren come first above all else."
