Simon Cowell reveals surprising way he's changed since becoming a dad to Eric

Simon Cowell has opened up about how he has changed since becoming a dad to his son Eric.

The media mogul, 59, spoke to ex Terri Seymour in LA for Lorraine and also opened up about Eric's influence on changing his lifestyle, writing a book with his son and on the upcoming series of BGT.

Asked how he had changed since becoming a dad, Simon said: "When you become a dad, something clicks in in you. it’s all about them.

"You become very protective and importantly, part of the reason I changed everything in my life is, I see my life through his eyes now and it’s much more simple and it’s much more fun."

Speaking about changing his lifestyle, Simon said: "I was like a vampire, I realised that I was going to sleep between 5 and 7 in the morning and then the trouble with that is, no matter if you get six hours, eight hours, you always wake up tired, that’s the problem.

"So along with the diet, I changed my hours so I go to sleep at 10pm and I now have breakfast at 8.30am. It’s almost like a complete reversal."

He added: "I’ve got to be honest with you, [Eric] was a big part of it. It just didn’t feel right that I couldn’t explain to someone his age that I’d been working all night and I’m tired in the afternoon. Just, it bothered me, so I thought, I’m just going to do it.

"On the weekend we went jet skiing together, we saw seals, I’m teaching him how to now do off-road biking, all that kind of stuff, go-karting…"

Simon also revealed that he was writing a book with his son.

I am writing a book with Eric. I literally am as we talk. We did this once, we had some time together and I said, you know what I think we should write this book together and he’s looking at me like, what? And then he started to get involved. We had such a fun time writing it. In the end I said you know what, we just do it. I can’t tell you yet [what it’s about].

“I think, just doing the process with him on the book, he has a very creative mind, you know. He enjoyed it. Of course I want him to do what I do in years to come, if he wants to. This is a good way of slowly getting him into it. He really enjoyed it. He loves reading books. He really does read a lot of books. He doesn’t play video games, he reads books, he plays board games and does puzzles, stuff like that.”

*Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30am on ITV
