Simon Cowell returns to Britain's Got Talent in episode shot before horrific accident

Simon Cowell joined fellow BGT judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams to make some tough decisions prior to the live shows.

This weekend, ITV will air an episode of Britain's Got Talent where the four judges select who will make it through to the semi-finals.

In the tense scenes, the foursome deliberate over who deserves a spot in the coveted show.

All of their decisions will be revealed on television this Sunday night.

The episode, which was in fact filmed alongside the auditions back in February, is being aired shortly after Simon Cowell suffered a horrific accident that required hours of surgery.

In the sneak peek footage ahead of the new episode, Simon and the judges must sift through 200 hopeful acts.

"We've got 200 acts and we've got to get them down to 40," Simon says in the voiceover.

In the tense footage, Amanda Holden added: "We're making or breaking people's dreams."

Later, Simon noted quite how hard the task was ahead of the group.

"There are so many people who could win this year," he said.

The group then entered a lavish room laden with images of the acts that they had put through, before settling in to make some difficult cuts.

Simon has actually been replaced from the live semi-finals after breaking his back in an electric bike accident.

The 60-year-old music mogul broke his back in three places and was forced to undergo surgery after he fell while practicing on his electric bike.

Simon is said to be recovering at his home in Los Angeles and will sit out the rest of the UK talent show.

His replacement has been revealed as dancer Ashley Banjo, 31.

The performer shot to fame when his dance troupe Diversity stole the show in series three of the talent competition.

Coming full circle on the talent show, Ashley is said to be delighted with the opportunity of stepping in for Simon.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Finalists Revealed airs Sunday 6:30pm on ITV
