Simon Cowell questioned on wedding as he makes The One Show debut

Music mogul Simon Cowell made an out-of-the-ordinary appearance on BBC's The One Show on Thursday, December 8. The 63-year-old creator of The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent appeared alongside singer Lucy Spraggan, who appeared on The X Factor in 2012 and has since released six albums, to discuss her new single, 'Balance'.

It was the first time Simon had ever appeared on the BBC staple, with presenter Ronan Keating saying: "Now Simon, you don't usually do this sort of show."

"Occasionally, it's been a while," Simon responded, before explaining: "I'm here because I'm very passionate about something at the moment and that is a record Lucy wrote. I heard this song in August and you never forget where you are when you hear a great song for the first time."

He added: "I said to her that I think we should put this record out at Christmas time and that's why we're here. It's honestly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard."

And whilst Simon seemed to want to talk solely about music, Welsh host Alex Jones had other ideas and questioned him on his upcoming wedding to Lauren Silverman.

"We know you love a bit of Christmas romantic behaviour, Simon," Alex said before adding: "You proposed to Lauren on Christmas Eve, didn't you?" Simon jokingly replied: "Did I?" before confirming the news.

The couple, who have one son together, announced their engagement in January 2022. "What we were wondering was, with all your contacts, who's going to be the wedding singer?" asked Alex.

"Now, Ronan [Keating] is very pricey!" Simon said, causing Alex's co-host to burst out laughing. He continued: "And I mean, very pricey! Oh yeah, we've already talked about it. It's like, mega."

"I can do you a deal with him," Alex joked. Elsewhere in the interview, Simon talked about future plans for The X Factor.

"Watch this space," he told Alex and Ronan. Meanwhile, Lucy said: "Simon and I have talked and if The X Factor were to ever come back, we'd love to make it a better show for contestants and particularly, for the longevity of contestants."
