Simon Cowell 'preparing new talent show' to air on ITV's rival channel

Simon Cowell is reportedly planning a new talent show set to air on a rival channel to ITV.

While the media mogul, 61, has enjoyed a close relationship with ITV for years, over recent times he has branched out to the BBC for his newer shows like The Greatest Dancer.

But it looks like Simon, who first appeared on ITV for Pop Idol 20 years ago back in 2001, is looking to branch out again to a certain streaming site.

Insiders have suggested that that Simon is keen to work with Netflix, with a source telling The Sun : "He has told friends that he is sick of competitors trying to out-do the brand, so decided he would do it himself.

“He’s vowed that his next show will be bigger and better than BGT."

They added that Simon is weighing up his options and considering whether to put it on a terrestrial channel or on a streaming site.

The insider continued: "Simon has a big vision and the likes of Netflix have hundreds of millions in their coffers to help make it a reality.

“Considering he’s responsible for some of the century’s most successful entertainment formats, streaming executives should be desperate to bring that Cowell magic to their platform.”

This comes after Simon finally returned back to work last month on America's Got Talent.

The new show reportedly won't air on ITV (ITV)

He was forced to miss the semi-finals and final of Britain's Got Talent last year after breaking his back on an electric bike.

In his first scenes back, Simon spoke about the pandemic as he said: "The overriding tone is you got through it. And now doing the show means more than anything else."

Last year, the Mirror revealed that Simon was "1cm from being paralysed" after breaking his back in the fall.

A source close to Simon said: “I spoke to him before the surgery and he was in incredible, ridiculous amounts of pain and also in shock. His back was broke in several places, but he is actually very lucky.

“He fell flat on his back and the doctors say the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre and it could have been a lot, lot more serious."
