Simon Cowell has commented on his weight transformation for the first time - saying it's down to 'common sense' and not a gastric band

Simon Cowell has been showcasing his new slimmer figure of late and he has finally commented on his new healthy look to deny that it is not the result of a helping hand and just 'common sense'.

The X Factor star has lost more than two stone and has said that his transformation is down to a vegan diet and cutting back on sugar - not a gastric band.

Simon, 59, was speaking ahead of Britian's Got Talent: The Champions which will air on ITV on Saturday (August 28).

The music mogul told Best magazine: "People have said, 'Oh, he's had a gastric band fitted' - but I haven't.

"If I had, I would admit to it. This diet is all about what you put into your body. It's not the Atkins diet or anything else. It's just common sense."

Simon also added: "It's not hard at all. I met this doctor in LA and he told me my diet was appalling and I had to cut out  fatty foods and certain drinks.

"Within a few weeks, I could see the difference. Cutting out sugar made a massive difference.

"The first few weeks were difficult, but then I stopped craving sugar. I have also found a brilliant gluten-free beer, which helps. The hardest part is when I see Eric [his five-year-old son] eat a pizza in front of me."

Showbiz pal Sinitta has also tried to take the credit for the dad-of-one's slimmed down look.

Speaking on ITV's Lorraine earlier this month, she said she spurred her former beau to get into shape after giving him a hug last year.

"I just whispered in his ear, baby I am really sorry to say this but I love you so much and I've got to do this," the So Macho singer said.

"You're too handsome, you’re too fabulous to let yourself go like this.

"I had my arms around him because we were hugging, but I just grabbed him a little bit around the love handles on the waist, and his little cheeks and said, I just want you to be healthy and look good and feel good. This is not you and you need to address this."

Britian's Got Talent hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have also commented on their bosses changing appearence.

Ant, 43, said: "He's lost a bit of weight," before co-host Dec, also 43, added: "Yeah, he's looking good.

"He's gone all vegan... vegan shepherd's pie, vegan sausages, what's that about? Is that the secret? I'll have to look into that."
