Simon Cowell gives a thumbs-up as he completes 10k charity walk after breaking back

Simon Cowell gave a thumb-up to passers-by as he finished his 10K charity walk earlier today.

As The Mirror revealed in an exclusive in April, Simon was celebrating his “110 per cent” recovery from a broken back by doing his first ever charity walk after breaking his back last year.

In 2020, the music mogul was riding an electric bike around Los Angeles, when he fell off and off his bike, and nearly severed his spinal cord.

His injuries were so severe that he needed six hours of surgery to repair him and spent month recovering.

Within days of announcing that he would donate all of his sponsorship funds for Shooting Star Children’s Hospice, he had already raised nearly £30,000.

The BGT judge and music chief took to the streets of West London with his partner Lauren and the charity’s vice president Karen Sugarman.

He wore a black top, socks and shoes with baggy white shorts as he took a journey through leafy Twickenham and Richmond. Simon was spotted having a rest on at the top of Richmond Hill with its views across the capital.

Simon remained positive during his recovery saying: "I was a millimetre away from just cutting my back in half. So I consider myself lucky."

He revealed that he was even pleased that there was a pandemic.

"Weirdly, it was a good thing that it happened," he continued. "I didn’t get Covid because I wasn’t able to travel and I probably would’ve done my fair share last year."

Simon and partner Lauren, 43, have a son, Eric, aged seven, who called his dad "Iron Man" when he saw the rods that were placed in Simon's body before he returned to full fitness.
