Simon Cowell breaks down in tears during live X Factor final

He may come across as a tough cookie during his critiques but Simon Cowell was reduced to tears live on air.

The X Factor judge couldn't hold back his emotions during the live X Factor Celebrity final.

Simon became visibly moved and left struggling to speak after watching the video for the show's latest charity single.

The finalists of the revamped ITV singing competition have recorded a version of Snow Patrol's Run with proceeds going to Together For Short Lives and Shooting Star Children's Hospices - which Simon has had a close relationship to for many years.

Once the video had played, host Dermot O'Leary turned to Simon to ask for his thoughts but words failed the 60-year-old.

Simon then lifted his glasses and placed his hand over his eyes as he cried.

The music mogul had to be comforted by fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger before his girlfriend Lauren Silverman rushed from the audience to hug her partner.

And Simon's tears were instantly passed on to viewers.

"Don't think I've ever see Simon Cowell cry before. That genuinely moved me #XFactorCelebrity," tweeted one.

Another said: "Haven't watched the xfactor celebrity this whole time just watching it before I'm a celeb and oh my god Simon just made me cry."

"Simon Cowell breaking down to cry you don’t see that often bless him," a third added.

Whilst a fourth commented: "Simon Cowell breaking down on #XFactorCelebrity pulls at my heart."

The single, which features all 13 acts including Vinnie Jones, Jenny Ryan, Megan Mckenna and Martin Bashir, is available to stream and download with all profits going to both children's charities.

The final saw former TOWIE star Megan McKenna crowned winner ahead of Jenny Ryan, Max & Harvey and V5.
