Simon Cowell appeals to Britney Spears to rejoin X Factor as a judge

Simon Cowell has publicly appealed for Britney Spears to rejoin The X Factor as a judge if it comes back.

The music and TV producer has asked Britney to work with him again ten years after they both sat on the judging panel of the American version of The X Factor.

The 63-year-old said the singer has 'lovely ideas about how to launch someone's career' which is why he wants her back working with him.

Simon told E! News: "We spent so long on the phone talking about X Factor before we did it. There's a side of Britney a lot of people don't know. I mean, I was on the phone to her two or three hours every time.

"She was super smart, lovely ideas about how to launch someone else's career, which is critical if you're going to be a judge on one of these shows. So I had a fantastic relationship with her."

He added: "If you're watching Britney and we make a show, please come back and do it with me. It would be amazing. I adore her. She really is interesting and she's so talented."

Back in July, it was reported Channel 5 are set to revive The X Factor.

A source said at the time told the Daily Star Sunday: "As soon as X Factor was up for grabs, there was interest from a number of the networks.

"X Factor is one of the most iconic shows in TV history, so it’s no surprise lots of channels were keen. The production company had their pick. After a lot of meetings, execs decided to go with Channel 5."

This comes after Simon said The X Factor turned into Frankenstein's monster and admits he 'maybe' should have pulled the plug sooner.

He said he tried desperately to shake-up the format to keep it fresh and new as the show competed with Strictly Come Dancing in the ratings war.

Simon said after its 14-year stint and multiple changes to the format, it left the competition a warped version of the original show.

The star shared how the the stress of the show left him 'pulling his hair out' until 4am as he agonised over altering the format like the 'six chair challenge'.

He added: "You add new elements, then change something else, then something else, then the next thing you know, you’ve got this Frankenstein’s monster.

"Should we have ended the show sooner? Maybe. We could have done, yeah," he told The Sun.

Simon said if the show were to come back then the format would need to change.
