Simon Cowell announces bizarre new talent show set in ANTARCTICA

Simon Cowell has confused fans by announcing a bizarre new talent show in ANTARCTICA.

The X Factor boss left his followers baffled with the shock announcement on his official Twitter account.

Some questioned if he had missed April Fool's Day after revealing plans to expand into a continent which is virtually uninhabited and covered in ice.

Simon posted a short video of flashing lights on an iceberg with the words: "Take the stage Antarctica."

He said: "I’ve set up talent shows all over the world. But until now, one place was missing. I am very excited to tell you that we are finally expanding into Antarctica… #TakeTheStageAntarctica #Ad"

Simon's confused followers took to Twitter to question what they were seeing.

One said: "Im so confused... but if watching this show means I get to see cute penguins and seals I’m down to watch it"

"Happy for mah fellow penguins over there, they deserve stardom," added another.

A third said: "Might as well do the moon while you’re at it"

This may be part of Simon's plans to completely overhaul X Factor - and replace it with a celebrity version.

The music mogul wants to inject “new energy” into the long-running series by casting stars such as soap actors, newsreaders and comedians.

One source said: “Imagine Strictly but with singers. That's the plan being talked about at present. There is no doubt the X Factor format needs freshening up – this is it.”

Simon is planning to overhaul X Factor (ITV)

He hopes to implement the changes for the upcoming series later this year - meaning the end of auditions for the public as we know it.

Although hopefuls in Antarctica could still have the chance to queue up for a chance to sing in front of the judges.

There are also rumours that Simon wants a special 'All-star' version of the ITV singing competition and get some familiar faces back on the stage.
