The Government’s disastrous homelessness policy was shown up again yesterday – as the Simon Community revealed damning new figures.
Less than 24 hours after Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy narrowly survived a vote of no confidence, the charity reported a 26% increase in people using its services.
Spokesman Wayne Stanley said: “These numbers show that this homelessness crisis is continuing to impact on the lives of many.”
The Simon Community’s annual report showed 16,776 people used its services last year – including 2,834 families with more than 5,000 children.
It also revealed 5,263 people across the country were supported in housing by the charity.
That’s a massive 56.8% increase on 2017 when the figure was 3,356.
