The Balearic Islands of Spain were kicked to the amber list on Wednesday, in the latest reshuffle of the government’s traffic light lists for travel – a day earlier than planned.
The move will prompt a stampede of holidaymakers back to the UK from the popular holiday islands to beat the quarantine deadline; we’ve already seen soaring air fares as travellers scramble home before Monday.
There is good news on the horizon, though. From 19 July (the same date that the Balearics join the amber list again), fully vaccinated Britons and under 18s won’t be required to quarantine when returning from amber countries, which will open up a swathe of Europe for holidays.
