SIM seller used fake ID with Prayut's photo on it

A 31-year-old man has been arrested for using a forged ID card with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's photo on it to register for SIM cards for resale to foreigners in Pattaya.

Peeramet Wongthongkuea was arrested at a shop in South Pattaya, Chon Buri province, on Wednesday evening, Pol Col Krisana Patanacharoen, police deputy spokesman, said on Thursday.

His apprehension followed a complaint to police by Real Move Co, which provides TrueMove mobile phone services.

The firm reported that ID cards in false names with a photo of Gen Prayut had been used to bulk purchase SIM cards for resale between March and May.

Mr Peeramet confessed to the crime, according to police, and was charged with putting false information into a computer system in a way that damaged other people.
