Silva, Fernandez, Kepa and Hall vie for Chelsea player of the season award after dismal season

Chelsea have just one more game before the end of the season and then supporters can finally turn off or focus on resetting to find promise in what next season can offer. There will be moments of reflection for the club however, as they look to build under a new manager.

While 2022/23 has been full of negatives for the Blues and few players will feel like they've had a successful season, a select few have provided some highlights. Fans have still found new heroes to sing about despite a bottom half finish.

It was not an easy task to establish four names to contend for the title with few contenders but a teenager and a January signing contend with more longstanding stars. football.london takes a look at the four candidates for this season's award.

Thiago Silva: The Brazilian veteran has continued to produce performances that make a mockery of his age and elevate those around him. Silva’s continued presence proves invaluable for young defenders around him and a further year will hopefully ensure a transition to elevate the likes of Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill next term. Not a perfect term but even in a tough season for the Blues, supporters’ affection will only have grown for the 38-year-old who arrived on a free transfer three seasons ago.

Enzo Fernandez: Having arrived in January for in excess of £100million, there was no shortage of expectation for the World Cup winner and he has still managed to leave fans excited. The 22-year-old midfielder has started every match since joining the Blues and performed well despite Chelsea’s struggles to only whet the appetite for what more he could offer.

Kepa Arrizabalaga: The Spanish goalkeeper will always have his critics and may not have earned a place as Chelsea’s long term No.1 but has produced some bewildering performances this season. Kepa managed seven saves against Aston Villa in October in a world class outing and has deserved to play more than anyone would have expected back in August.

Lewis Hall: The youngster may not have managed to have a sustained impact on Chelsea’s first team this season but has provided some light in what has been a dire season for the Blues. He will not have made many appearances some the end of 2022/23 but will likely have played Man City four times and for the most part, impressed in a position that is not his most comfortable. A real talent.
