Silent Witness fans have 'breakdown' over shock Holby City link in latest episode

Silent Witness fans had a shock while watching the latest episode of the crime drama as they saw some very familiar hospital sets. In the episode airing on Janaury 9, viewers noticed that the drama used the set of recently axed BBC One medical drama Holby City.

The Casualty spin-off aired its final episodes in March 2022 and the tragic conclusion saw long-term character Jac Naylor die. Silent Witness viewers recognised the sets during the latest episode of the drama, starring Emilia Fox, which is set in London and saw a chase scene at a hospital that looked very similar to Holby.

Neptune House at BBC Elstree was Holby City's former home and has previously appeared on screen as Grange Hill and Ed Straker’s HQ in the cult series UFO. Many fans recognised the set and it brought back strong memories of Holby City.

One said: "OMG THEY ARE USING THE HOLBY SET AHHH #SilentWitness" and another added: "THAT’S THE BED JAC DIED IN WTF #SilentWitness". A third said: "Glad to see the Holby City set is still being used. #SilentWitness".

Another added: "The hospital set up in #SilentWitness is giving me old Holby City vibes" while a fifth said: "#silentwitness using the #holbycity set now brb just having a breakdown". Another added: "WHY IS THIS BEING FILMED IN HOLBY CITY???? #SilentWitness".

Silent Witness is airing its 27th series, you can read everything you need to know about the series here, however, some viewers have been calling for "simpler" storylines. The series has reverted back to airing two-part episodes on consecutive nights.

Some fans feel "disappointed" with the TV staple, which follows a group of forensic scientists, with viewers continuing to air their grievances on social media after the first episodes. Many have argued the plot is overcomplicated and has drifted too far from its more scientific roots, with one viewer tweeting: "I hope Silent Witness will revert to forensic pathology instead of this investigative nonsense. What is going on."
