Silent Hill 2 and other announcements from the Silent Hill stream

Konami is bringing its long-dormant horror game series Silent Hill back from the grave in a very big way. The publisher posted a nearly-hour-long video highlighting multiple SIlent Hill projects, some of which leaked beforehand, including several new Silent Hill games, a high-profile remake, and even a new Silent Hill movie from the director and producer of the 2006 Silent Hill movie adaptation.

While Konami created the franchise, along with others such as Castlevania and Metal Gear, the publisher is working with development partners to bring these new creations to life, though those with ties to the original games, including Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka, are still involved in production.

Most of these projects are still in development, and none have a solid release date just yet.

Read on to get a glimpse at everything Konami announced!

Silent Hill 2 remake

Konami and Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, The Medium) are remaking the acclaimed Silent Hill 2, set for release on PS5 and PC. Rumors suggest the Silent Hill 2 remake will also launch on other consoles after an exclusivity period with Sony ends, but neither Konami nor Sony confirmed that.

Bloober is working closely with Ito and Yamaoka to “preserve the Silent Hill atmosphere,” but will modernize where needed as well. One such change is the swap to an over-the-shoulder perspective, which Bloober said will help with immersion.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Annapurna Interactive and developer No Code (Observation) are working on a brand-new story in the Silent Hill universe called Silent Hill Townfall. That, and a mildly disturbing trailer where one person is interviewing another about why they think they’re being held in a certain location. The answer is, apparently, to be monitored and judged.

And that’s about all Konami let slip for Silent Hill: Townfall. No Code said the project is still early in development, but if the team’s previous work is anything to go by, we’re in for a terrifyingly good time.

Silent Hill: Ascension

Next up is Silent Hill: Ascension,a massive interactive live experience from Genvid (Rival Peaks), J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Studios, and Dead by Daylight maker Behaviour Interactive. Like Genvid’s Rival Peaks before it, Silent Hill: Ascension is an interactive narrative where choices viewers and players make determine how the story unfolds – including who lives and who suffers a gruesome Silent Hill fate.

Genvid CEO Jacob Navok said in the presentation that SH Ascension is canon to the Silent Hill world, so whatever choices you make will have lasting consequences.

Silent Hill f

Another project early in development is Silent Hill f. The Silent Hill f trailer shows a girl in walking through a town in various states of decay – normally at first, then dragging a lead pipe, and then eventually being taken over by sinister red roots.

It ends with her face sloughing off as the plants that consumed her body start to bloom – totally ordinary stuff. Ryukishi07 (Higurashi: When They Cry) is responsible for writing this game, with Resident Evil Re:Verse developer Neobards also on board.

Return to Silent Hill

Return to Silent Hill is a movie adaptation of Silent Hill 2 from producer Victor Hadida and director Christophe Gans, both of whom were involved in the original Silent Hill movie.

Production is still early, as casting and filming are still underway, but the team is aiming to stay true to the game’s dark spin on psychological horror while modernizing it where necessary.
