Silence ceremony to mark Veronica Guerin's murder

A minute's silence will be held tonight at the site where the Irish journalist Veronica Guerin was murdered ten years ago today. The Sunday Independent reporter was shot dead on the outskirts of Dublin after writing a series of articles on drug barons. Two men were found guilty of her murder but one conviction was overturned on appeal. A third man, John Gilligan, was tried and acquitted of her murder but convicted of importing drugs. He is serving a 20-year sentence. (Via irishexaminer.com)
