Sigourney Weaver has described joining the Star Wars universe as “so fascinating”.
The American actress, 76, is familiar with roles in sci-fi films, having starred in the Alien horror film franchise, as well as James Cameron’s award-winning Avatar movies.
Her latest role sees her venture into a galaxy far, far away as she takes centre stage as high-ranking military official Ward in Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu.

Speaking to the Press Association at a UK fan event for the eagerly awaited film, the actress reflected on how it felt to join the latest era of George Lucas’s globally successful sci-fi franchise.
Weaver said: “I think you’re just too excited to actually go, ‘Oh, it’s all about me’.
“You’re just, you’re going, ‘Oh my god, there’s another species’, ‘Oh my goodness, there’s another puppeteer. There’s another weird little robot.’
“I just found it so fascinating to be on the set and see how they make the Star Wars movie – especially a big, huge movie like this.”
The actress also praised her co-star Pedro Pascal for doing “an absolutely amazing job” as the main character in the upcoming film.

The film follows on from hit Disney series The Mandalorian and sees the Chilean-American actor reprise his role as human bounty hunter Mandalorian Din Djarin.
Fans erupted into screams as the stars arrived on the black carpet for the event at Cineworld Leicester Square in London, flanked by Jon Favreau – who wrote, produced and directed the upcoming film.
Favreau, known for Marvel’s Iron Man franchise, wore a monochrome look consisting of a grey T-shirt and blazer, paired with black jeans and white trainers.
Pascal wore a casual navy suit dressed down with a grey knit sweater vest, while Weaver wore a black leather ensemble, consisting of a jacket and matching trousers, and her dark hair was styled in a chic wet-look.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu will be available to watch in cinemas across the UK from May 22.
