And finally...
To celebrate her 100th day in office secretary of state for Wales, Cheryl Gillan visited the Billybanks in Penarth today to see how the new developments for Penarth heights are coming on.
The old council estate has been demolished to make way for the 17 acre complex and building work is scheduled to start in the next couple of weeks, with the first residents being welcomed in Spring 2011 and the development planned to be complete in 2017.
Gillan said:
"I have been hugely impressed with the progress being made by Penarth Heights Development in redeveloping this estate.
"The development when complete will have 377 new properties, 20 per cent of which will be affordable housing. I will be following the progress with keen interest and would very much like to visit in the future to see how it is coming along."
Councillor Gordon Kemp, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said:
"It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State to the Vale to mark her first 100 days in office. We are looking forward to seeing Penarth Heights completed; it is an important part of our plans for the town, which include a major renewal programme which is improving existing housing in the area. We are also about to commence a similar renewal programme in Barry and we are working with private developers there too, on the regeneration of the town's waterfront."
David Huggett, managing director for Crest Nicholson, explained:
"We were delighted to welcome the Secretary of State for Wales to Penarth Heights and to have it recognised as a beacon of excellence in the regeneration of South Wales.
"We are steadily moving forward with the development and look forward to seeing the new homes and community take shape."
