Signing off for the weekend: Community and Christmas events

That's it for the blog this week folks – but we'll be back on Monday with plenty more. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section of this post.

What's on this weekend?

Wales might be in deep freeze but a north Cardiff suburb is celebrating Christmas in the style of the USA's deep south. The Rhiwbina Baptist Community Gospel Choir (RBCGC) is performing Christmas Tapestry today, tomorrow and on Sunday at Rhiwbina Baptist Church, on Lon Ucha, Rhiwbina. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7.30pm whilst the Sunday performance will take place at 10.30am.

Christmas Tapestry is a fusion of gospel, blues and classical music. It blends traditional carols and anthems with foot stomping gospel tunes. It's bringing the soul back into Christmas.

RBCGC's choir director Troy Blankenship said:

"People love gospel music because it's upbeat and positive. In fact it's impossible to listen to it without tapping your feet or getting up and dancing. We'd love the people of Cardiff to come and experience a gospel Christmas with us – it'll put a smile on their face."

The Penarth Festive Fun Run will take place this Sunday along the seafront – which will be closed in the afternoon, following by festivities from 2.30pm. Find out more at penarthfunrun.com.

There will be a Christmas family fun day at the National Museum Cardiff.

A Christmas Fayre will take place at the Whitchurch Community Centre on Old Church Road, Whitchurch from 10-12.30pm in aid of Four Paws Animal Rescue.

Cycle Training Wales will have a sale this weekend from 10am-12pm at Cardiff Cycle Workshop, Unit 4 Ely Brewery Workshops, Wroughton Place. Check out more here.

The Gabalfa Community Choir are holding the Musical Evening on Saturday at 7.30 pm at St. Mark's Church Hall on North Road. The event is free (donations for Tŷ Hafan very welcome), and will feature the Gabalfa Community Choir as well as other musicians.

The Symphonic Brass will join with the Cardiff Ardwyn Singers for their concert at All Saints Church, Penarth at 7.30pm and the Youth Brass Band will perform with Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society at their traditional Christmas Carol Service at the cathedral.
