Signing off for the weekend – Armed Forces Day in Cardiff

Tomorrow, Cardiff will play host to national Armed Forces Day for the first time, and a march will leave Cardiff Castle at 11am and travel through High Street and St Mary Street on its way to Cardiff Bay led by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Lord of Mayor of Cardiff, Keith Hyde, said:

"It's a great honour that Cardiff will host the UK Armed Forces Day national event this year. We have planned an event that Cardiff and the whole of Wales will be proud of.

"I am looking forward to welcoming the brave men and women who make up the Armed Forces to the city and I am sure a warm Welsh welcome will be in store for them."

Cardiff Council has reminded residents there will travel disruptions in the city centre at this time and advised those attending to make use of park and ride facilities in the city. A rolling road closure will be in place on High Street, St Mary Street, Callaghan Square and Lloyd George Avenue. Other road closures include:

*Bute Crescent, from 6am Thursday 24 June, to 11pm Saturday26 June (access allowed for residents and deliveries)
*Bute Place from its junction with James Street/Bute Street, to its junction with Lloyd George Avenue, and Lloyd George Avenue from its junction with Bute Place to its junction with Hemmingway Road, from 6am to 11pm June 26.
*Bute Place East, from its junction with Lloyd George Avenue to its junction with Pierhead Street/Britannia Quay and Pierhead Street west of its junction with Caspian Way/Falcon Drive from 6am Friday 25 June to 11pm 26 June.
*Britannia Quay and Harbour Drive (south of its junction with Britannia Quay) from 6am Thursday 24 June to noon Monday 28 June.
