'Significant' new measures against unruly motorists outside Colwick Country Park

New measures have been put in place near a country park in Nottinghamshire following residents' ongoing complaints about "awful" parking.

Motorists have been parking inconsiderately on the residential roads surrounding Colwick Country Park, leading to some residents saying they had to "risk life and limb" while walking in the area.

Particularly problematic areas included Colwick Manor Farm and Ramblers Close, and double-yellow lines which were painted at key junctions had done little to stop the problem.

The issue then worsened amid the coronavirus pandemic due to restrictions on what activities people could do.

Back in June councillor Mike Adams, who represents Trent Valley for Gedling Borough Council and Carlton East for the county council, told Nottinghamshire Live parking wardens had been introduced to issue fines to those improperly parked near the park.

Now additional measures have been put in place, including new and clearer signage on Daleside Road, as well as new signs pointing to the Daleside Road East car park, which has been renamed.

Councillor Adams also said that enforcement in the area has been upped "significantly".

He said: "One of the things I campaigned on was to solve this problem for residents, because it felt like they had been abandoned.

"The temporary traffic order in place is fully enforceable with a view to putting additional infrastructure in place.

"I've been working with Nottingham City Council and they have been very helpful. We've now got proper signage as one of the biggest things was directing people to the correct car park."

The city council said it had identified parking and pedestrian safety concerns along Racecourse Road.

It said the warm summer months combined with the relaxing of Covid restrictions had caused "a huge level of demand" for parking in the area.

Motorists have been encouraged to follow the new signs to the car park, which is free.

The Colwick Country Park pin on Google Maps has also been relocated from Mile End Road to the car park in Racecourse Road.

Councillor Adams said he is working on "phase three" of plans to stop inconsiderate and illegal parking in the area.

He added: "The relocation of the Google Maps pin will ensure all visitors, including taxis, using Google Maps will be directed away from Mile End Road/River Road to the Racecourse Road Car Park.

"Phase three is on its way."
