'Significant damage' caused to number of cars on local street as tyres slashed and windows smashed

"Significant damage" has been caused to a number of cars parked on a Midlothian street, with police promising to up their patrols in the area.

Residents on Newbyres Crescent in Gorebridge are angry after several vehicles saw windows smashed, tyres slashed and other damage caused while parked in the area throughout December and January.

Police say the incidents have had a "disruptive effect" on the local community, and they'll be doing all they can to catch those responsible and put residents at ease.

Midlothian Police say: "Funded Midlothian Community Action Team officers have been engaging with members of the community and carrying out regular patrols in Gorebridge following reports of significant damage to a number of cars in Newbyres Crescent between December 2020 and January 2021.

"Damage includes car windows having been smashed, tyres slashed and other damage caused. This has had a disruptive effect on the local community, and will not be tolerated. Police will continue to carry out patrols in this area and other areas of concern.

"Anyone with any information on these crimes should contact police on 101. Alternatively, anyone wishing to report their information anonymously can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
