'Significant burst' leaves hundreds of Dublin homes with low-pressure water supply

Hundreds of Dublin homes have today been left with a low-pressure water supply after a burst at a water main.

Irish Water are working in partnership with Dublin City Council to repair to a 'significant burst' on a 600mm diameter water main.

The water main, which is situated on the Upper Drumcondra road, ruptured at approximately 7:30am this morning.

The areas affected with low pressure are parts of: The North Inner City, Drumcondra, Artane, Fairview, Clontarf, and Raheny, Whitehall, Santry and Cabra.

Irish Water has apologised to customers for the inconvenience and has issued advice to homeowners.

They told Dublin Live: "At this stage, it will be tomorrow before supplies return to normal. Every effort had been made by DCC staff working in partnership with Irish Water to minimize the disruption to homes and businesses by diverting water from other locations in order to limit the impact of the burst.

"Irish Water is encouraging customers to conserve water while these works are underway. Tips for water conservation can be found on our website but include: Turning the tap of when brushing your teeth, taking short showers instead of baths.

"We are also asking if customers could ensure full loads for dish washers and washing machines before use.  Irish Water and Dublin City Council wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential repair works.
