Sign of the times: Bemused residents struggle to follow council instructions to the letter

A sign posted by South Lanarkshire Council left park-goers a little bit bewildered.

For the notice warning of no access for maintenance vehicles, displayed at the James Hamilton Heritage Park in East Kilbride, contained a number of spelling errors.

After attracting attention on social media, the sign which read "No Maintanance Vehicals Behond This Point" was removed.

Commenting on the notice, one woman posted: "A wee bit like the signs inside the bus station regarding smoking within the "permises".

While another went on: "It's the same with subtitles on TV. Spelling is dreadful."

And another flummoxed resident wrote: "So nobody proof reads these first???"

While one poster joked: "Yeah, that’s the Gaelic spelling."

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council told Lanarkshire Live the sign has now been replaced, minus the spelling errors.
