Sign of hope as Merseyside coronavirus deaths stay low

Having been hit so hard during the coronavirus pandemic, there was better news for Merseyside today as the number of those reported to have died stayed low.

A further five people tragically lost their lives after testing positive for coronavirus in our wider area.

Three of those were registered at the Liverpool University NHS Trust, which covers the Royal, Broadgreen and Aintree hospitals.

Liverpool's Trusts death totals currently remain as follows:

  • Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (The Royal Liverpool, Aintree and Broadgreen Hospitals) - 381
  • Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital - 17
  • The Walton Centre - 9
  • Alder Hey Children's Hospital - 4 (all adults)
  • Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust - 3

Wirral's main NHS Trust, which includes Arrowe Park Hospital, registered no further deaths for a second day- with its overall figure remaining at 193.

There was one more death recorded at the Trust covering Southport and Ormskirk, which has now seen 127 fatalities.

The Trust covering St Helens and Knowsley recorded no more deaths today, with its total staying at 174.

There was one further death reported in today's update at the Trust which covers Halton and Warrington, where 109 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

National scale

Another 256 people have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus.

NHS England has announced 186 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,345.

There were 46 further deaths in Scotland, nine in Wales, and 15 in Northern Ireland - all announced by their respective health authorities.
