'Sign Maddison!' - Arsenal fans send transfer message to Edu amid Martin Odegaard decision

Some Arsenal fans have been reacting to the latest transfer update involving Martin Odegaard and James Maddison.

It's no secret that one of Mikel Arteta and Edu's main priorities between now and deadline day is to sign a creative midfielder to ease the burden on Emile Smith Rowe next season.

And a number of players have been tipped to fill the void including Emiliano Buendia - who has joined Aston Villa - and Lyon's Houssem Aouar who remains a possibility a year on from being heavily linked with a move.

Although, football.london understands that the search has been narrowed down to Leicester City's James Maddison and Martin Odegaard of Real Madrid.

In fact, whilst Arsenal have made enquiries about the former, they still view the latter as a primary target despite his return to Spain this summer.

This stance has prompted a huge debate on social media.

On one hand, some are happy for Odegaard to seal a return to the Emirates Stadium after he impressed during the second half of last season when he was on loan from Real Madrid.

But others are adamant that signing Maddison is the best option.

Take a look at what's been said on Twitter...

@robertwaite14 said: "If Arsenal sign Odegaard over Maddison! Edu and Arteta should be sacked."

@Mallia18 said: "Gimme Odegaard over Maddison any day of the week."

@gunner49coyg said: "Xhaka out Maddison in. Bellerin out Aarons in. Laca out Bamford in."
