'Sign him' - Liverpool told long-term rival can provide midfield transfer solution

Liverpool have been urged to sign Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante in the summer by Reds legend Steve Nicol.

The French World Cup winner is a free agent in the summer when his contract expires at Stamford Bridge and a new deal is yet to be agreed to extend his stay in London.

Kante has struggled for fitness this season with a hamstring injury keeping him out of the World Cup and Premier League action since October. However, Nicol thinks he would be a good addition to the Reds if he can stay fit.

The 31-year-old is a two-time Premier League winner and is one of the best midfielders in the world - when he is fit and well. Kante would be a fine addition to a struggling Reds engine room.

Nicol told ESPN FC: "If I am a coach of the best team on the planet, and he’s [Kante] available, then I want to sign him. There are certain things that you take a chance on in football, and this is one of them.

“You know exactly what you are getting when he is fit. You know you are getting a player, a gentleman and an experienced winner. He’s the whole package. The nicest guy in the world. Fantastic in the dressing room. You are getting everything.”
