Sign change at former Nottingham Homebase store expected to become a car showroom

New signage could be put up at a former Homebase store set to become a car showroom creating hundreds of jobs.

The building of the former DIY store, which shut in December 2018, is currently bare and vacant off the A453 Queen's Drive.

Planning permission for the showroom was agreed last year with CarShop keen to expand into the city.

It has since applied to Nottingham City Council to add its branding in the form of flags and signs to the seven-acre site.

Around 700 vehicles are expected to be on display with the facility due to offer vehicle servicing.

Dealership bosses hope it could create up to 60 new jobs.

The company, with bases already in Cardiff, Doncaster, Northampton, Norwich and Swindon, previously confirmed it had acquired a production facility, in Lenton Lane, in a move expected to increase the overall amount of jobs to the 200-mark.

Speaking last year, CarShop representative Nigel Mills said: “We’re keen to invest in Nottingham and position our new CarShop in a prime East Midlands location with good access, in a mature retail setting, to complement the other brands already trading there.

“We’ve already secured a further 10-acre site to be developed as a preparation facility, acting as a feeder for our new store and to assist with the growth of existing stores and future locations. When both locations are fully operational we hope to create up to 200 new jobs.”
